Rates to fall to fresh record-lows

A slowing global economy will magnify the headwinds from the housing downturn in Australia and slower net migration in New Zealand. We think that GDP growth will slow more sharply than most anticipate and expect central banks in both countries to lower interest rates to fresh record-lows. Coupled with falling commodity prices, that should result in a further weakening of their exchange rates.
