Norway’s “climate election”; Riksbank’s QE dilemma

The run-up to Norway’s parliamentary elections on Monday 13th has been dominated by a debate over the speed at which the country should transition away from its reliance on energy. Labour’s Jonas Gahr Støre looks likely to succeed Erna Solberg as Prime Minister and appears to favour a gradual approach. But depending on how the vote goes, Labour might need to cooperate with the Greens, who are calling for an end to oil production by 2035, so coalition negotiations could get messy! Next week, we expect the release of Swedish CPI inflation data to show that headline CPIF rose to just shy of the Riksbank’s target rate in August.
CE Spotlight 2021: The Rebirth Of Inflation? We’re holding a week of online events from 27th September to accompany our special research series. Event details and registration here.
