Egypt’s privatisation drive, dollarisation in Lebanon

Egypt’s latest privatisation drive appears to have stalled after targets were watered down. The government doesn’t face the same need to secure revenues as it did recently, but privatisation is still a key ingredient if Egypt is to unlock faster growth. Elsewhere, inflation in Lebanon has slowed sharply in recent months as de-facto dollarisation is taking hold, but there are a vast number of other areas to tackle to give Lebanon’s economy any hope of recovering from its deep crisis.
