Vaccine supplies drying up, delaying recoveries

Sub-Saharan Africa’s already slow vaccination campaigns received another blow with news this week that a key supplier, India’s Serum Institute, is delaying shipments further. African policymakers will probably struggle to fill the vaccine supply gap and, as a result, containment measures will have to stay in place for longer and fresh virus waves will remain a key risk. Economic activity will stay subdued and the region is likely to be one of the last to emerge from the coronavirus crisis.
