Data released this week add to the evidence that the hit to the economy from higher energy prices could be a bit bigger than we have assumed in our baseline forecasts. But the upside risks to inflation mean that the ECB is prioritising keeping price pressures under control. Unless energy prices fall a long way over the next six weeks, an interest rate hike in June, and probably another shortly afterwards, now look very likely.
