Policymakers in China seem more concerned about the overcapacity problem than the trade war with the US, with good reason. BYD is the latest firm struggling in a sector where domestic production capacity has surged far ahead of domestic demand. In fact, exports are a relative bright spot, still substantially higher than a year ago, despite US tariffs.
