In our baseline scenario, WTI has already peaked but still averages $80 per barrel over the rest of the year, acting as a modest net positive for GDP growth and boosting headline inflation. Nonetheless, broader economic weakness and uncertainty around upcoming CUSMA renegotiations suggest the Bank of Canada will keep rates unchanged until 2027, unless oil prices rise much further, which would increase the risk of spillovers to core inflation.
