China’s iron ore extortion won’t succeed

China’s strong reliance on Australian iron ore means that its recent ban of imports from one of Australia’s mining giants will at best result in minor concessions. The bigger picture though is that China’s property bust coupled with the decarbonisation of the global economy is resulting in an even faster decline in Australia’s mining output than we had anticipated. That in turn is a major headwind to living standards in the country.
