Latin America Weekly: Worsening current account positions, Bolivia’s election

One theme to emerge from the recently-released GDP figures is that domestic demand is increasingly leaking into imports, which will cause current account positions to worsen. External positions still look strong across much of the region, but this trend supports the idea that Latin American currencies are likely to depreciate. Finally, the first round of Bolivia’s election heralds a shift to the right, and efforts to solve the economy’s mounting woes.
