While faster productivity growth makes it easier for firms to absorb stronger wage growth, the Bank of Japan will welcome the resilience of consumer spending and business investment since Liberation Day. And with growth in public spending falling well short of growth in overall output, the budget deficit is probably still narrowing. Accordingly, concerns that Japan is about to experience a fiscal crisis are wide off the mark.
