AI revolution still largely bypassing Japan

The external trade data for March showed that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has started to reduce energy inflows from the Middle East. But the more striking development is the recent acceleration in export prices, which largely reflects soaring prices of memory chips. Apart from the resulting boost to chipmakers' profits though, there’s still scant evidence that Japan is benefitting from the surge in AI-related investment overseas.
