While BoJ Governor Ueda acknowledged that Japan’s economy has so far shrugged off the impact of higher US tariffs, he warned that downside risks persist. Nonetheless, with the Governor admitting that the tariff hit will put less downward pressure on inflation than initially feared and the Board turning increasingly hawkish, we’re sticking to our forecast that the Bank will hike its policy rate later this month.
