Russia Interest Rate Announcement (Aug.)

The Russian central bank’s 350bp interest rate hike, to 12.0%, at today’s unscheduled meeting is likely to be followed by further increases in the coming months. But there’s little the central bank can do in the short term to stem the ruble’s decline without some strict currency controls or FX intervention.
