COVID-19 vaccine hopes, asset sales, UAE reforms

The distribution of an effective COVID-19 vaccine would provide a boost to economic recoveries, particularly in those economies most vulnerable to social distancing measures, such as Dubai, Morocco and Tunisia. The Gulf would also benefit from a boost to the oil market as demand recovers more quickly. But the scarring effects from the crisis mean recoveries are still likely to be slower than in most other regions. Meanwhile, governments in Oman and Dubai have taken further steps to secure funding for large budget deficits. And the UAE's government announced a series of legal reforms that should boost the country’s attractiveness to expatriate workers and tourists.
