Oil prices run ahead of themselves

After a strong start to the week, with Brent seemingly heading for $70 per barrel, the recovery in oil prices ran out of steam by Friday. Indeed, the rebound over the last few months could simply encourage US firms to restart production, while undermining any pick-up in demand. We think that prices are now more likely to fall than to rise over the remainder of the year.
