Housing market activity constrained by low inventory

Mortgage applications for both refinance and home purchase have been on a steady downward trend since mid-September. The drop in refinancing can be attributed to rising mortgage interest rates, as markets anticipate that the Fed will hike rates in December. But the dip in home purchase applications reflects the lack of inventory. With market conditions set to remain tight, house prices will come under further upward pressure.
