The fall in the Halifax measure of house prices in September was at odds with September’s 0.5% m/m rise on the alternative Nationwide measure. But it supports other leading indicators which suggest that, against a backdrop of weak employment and still high mortgage rates, the prospect of tax rises in the Budget on 26th November is weighing on buyer sentiment.
