Our China Labour Market Indicator has climbed back above its long-run average recently, signalling an improving employment backdrop. A key driver has been stronger labour demand among exporters, who have become more willing to hire and raise wages as the threat from tariffs has eased. This is starting to feed through to rising consumer confidence which, together with policy efforts to lift the consumption-to-GDP ratio, could help support a modest pickup in consumption in 2026.
