The dollar, wages and the inflation target

The weakening in the Australian dollar to a 19-month low will provide a small boost to CPI inflation, but it won’t solve Australia’s persistent problem of low wage growth. While lowering the RBA’s inflation target may appear like a simple solution, it might actually cause the Bank more problems in the future as it would have less conventional ammunition to deploy during the next downturn.
