Economy increasingly shrugging off lockdowns

Short localised lockdowns are becoming increasingly common in New Zealand and Australia as governments seek to contain virus outbreaks. But the impact on consumption is typically short-lived and employers appear happy to retain employees through these periods given mounting staff shortages. And with the first batch of Pfizer vaccines arriving in both countries this week, the border should become a less porous barrier for the virus over the coming weeks.
