Consumer sentiment ends this year a little stronger thanks to the government reopening and the stock-market rally continuing. This should help keep fourth-quarter consumer spending resilient despite lingering concerns about the labour market. Admittedly the level of consumer sentiment remain far below its long run average, but the relationship between sentiment levels and household spending has been weak in recent years.
