The sharp repricing in futures markets toward discounting the chance of a Fed hike this year looks somewhat overdone, especially given the Fed’s commentary following this week’s rate decision. While the FOMC policy statement didn’t directly address how it might respond to the recent surge in energy prices, Chair Powell loosely suggested in the press conference that the Fed would be willing to look through temporary inflation related to high oil prices.
