Pressure on Egypt’s pound?

Egyptian dollar bonds have performed particularly poorly this week, suggesting that the recent turmoil in EM financial markets exacerbated the slowdown in capital inflows to the country that was already underway. It seems likely that the central bank is now intervening in the FX market to support the pound. We do expect the currency to depreciate in the coming quarters, although a narrowing current account deficit should limit the downside.
