Emergency rate hike fails to shore up Argentine peso

The Argentine central bank’s interest rate hike at an unscheduled meeting on Friday has provided little relief for the peso, which is down by another 2.5% against the dollar today. Against a backdrop of growing economic vulnerabilities, the currency is likely to fall further, and we now expect further interest rate hikes in the near term.
