India is closing in on a decade of inflation targeting and the current framework is up for review. The success of the Reserve Bank in keeping inflation lower and less volatile since the introduction of inflation targeting suggests there is little need to overhaul the framework. Instead, some fine-tuning around the duration of shut periods and the terms of external MPC members would help to improve communications and ensure policy continuity.
