Russia Activity Data (Aug.)

Russia’s industrial production and retail sales data for August suggest that activity remained fairly solid and we think the economy is on track for GDP growth of 2.5% this year. Monetary policy has been tightened aggressively recently but fiscal policy is likely to remain loose over the coming quarters, which will continue to add to inflation pressures and delay any slowdown in growth until next year.
