FDI defying trade tensions, property price data quirks

The recent strength of direct investment into China is a reminder that, despite rising US tariff barriers, the country remains an attractive destination for foreign firms. Even so, policymakers shouldn’t get complacent. China will start to lose its allure unless they make faster progress on structural reform. Meanwhile, the latest official survey of home prices in 70 cities generated plenty of headlines this week. But this data isn’t the place to look for a timely guide to property market trends.
