Export outlook still strong despite virus flare-ups

China’s goods exports probably can’t keep growing at their incredibly-rapid recent rates for long, not least because infection flare-ups in Europe and the US will take some steam out of the recoveries they’ve seen in retail sales. But China’s exports should remain strong. And the Q3 GDP and September spending data on Monday are likely to show that the drivers of China’s rebound are already broadening from investment and exports to include services and consumer spending. In the near-term, China will remain a significant economic outperformer.
