Paul Ashworth
Chief North America Economist
Paul Ashworth is our Chief North America Economist, with overall responsibility for our coverage of the US and Canada. He joined Capital Economics in 2001 and has led our Toronto office since 2007. Paul joined Capital Economics from the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) where he worked on their large-scale model of the global economy and was responsible for coverage of various countries, including Canada and Germany. He holds degrees in Mathematics and Economics from Strathclyde and Warwick Universities, and his PhD thesis focused on asymmetry and asymmetric adjustment in macroeconomics.

Ariane Curtis
Global Economist
Ariane Curtis joined Capital Economics in September 2021 and is an Economist in the Global Economics team. Ariane joins from the Bank of England, where she worked in the International Directorate. She has a BA in Economics from Dalhousie University in Canada and an MSc in economics from University College London.

Thomas Mathews
Senior Markets Economist
Thomas Mathews is a Senior Markets Economist focusing on bonds and equities as part of our Global Markets Service. Prior to joining Capital Economics in 2020 he worked at the Reserve Bank of Australia, in both financial markets and economics departments. Thomas holds a Master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics, and undergraduate qualifications in economics, mathematics and philosophy.
