The meeting between Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President Trump next week is widely expected to see the announcement of a new security deal and the US’s partnership in the Kingdom’s civilian nuclear programme. This reflects stepped up efforts to bring the Gulf into its orbit. The US’s charm offensive in other parts of the region has been on show too, with efforts to improve relations with Syria and Lebanon. Elsewhere, the IMF will travel to Egypt soon amid signs that delayed reviews of the current lending program will be passed. That would help to further strengthen Egypt's fragile balance of payments position.
We will be hosting a 20-minute Drop-in to discuss whether Egypt can sustain its recent momentum and the future outlook for its reforms on Wednesday 19th November at 10.00GMT/14.00GST. Register here and for access to the recording on-demand.
