What do July’s utility price hikes mean for Russian inflation?

Utility tariffs for Russian households and businesses were raised at the start of this month, fuelling concerns in some quarters that this could trigger a renewed pick-up in inflation. But the key point is that what matters for inflation is the difference in the rate of indexation this year compared to last. As a result, the impact should be small. Indeed, we expect inflation to fall further over the rest of the year.
