Markets focus on the Trump positives

Following the victory for Donald Trump in the US presidential election, commodity markets chose to focus on his promise of a large fiscal stimulus, including a substantial increase in infrastructure spending. This boosted the prices of industrial metals, in particular, while dealing a blow to gold. Markets are ignoring the risk that some of Trump’s other policies – such as greater protectionism – could have negative implications for commodity demand.
