Commodity prices turning into a tailwind

The recent rise in the prices of some key commodity exports will go some way to boosting the national income of both Australia and New Zealand. The surge in the price of coal to a three-and-a-half-year high will boost the coffers of Australian coal exporters, while farmers in New Zealand can take some comfort from dairy prices having stabilised at an 18-month high. The constraint on economic activity in both economies from the two-year long decline in commodity prices therefore appears to be easing.
