The healthy 177,000 rise in non-farm payrolls in April and unchanged unemployment rate will reassure the Fed that there is no need to be hasty in lowering interest rates when it meets next week. Given that firms were willing to hire additional workers in healthy numbers only a week after the Liberation Day tariff announcement, this report also undermines the idea that firms would be unwilling to commit to new investment in such an uncertain environment.
