Sales tax hike delay & trade war woes

The government downgraded its assessment of economic conditions this week, prompting renewed speculation that the sales tax hike scheduled for 1st October will be delayed yet again. However, with the survey data picking up again recently we suspect that PM Abe will still press ahead. Elsewhere, US President Trump will probably delay the introduction of a tariff on Japanese cars for half a year, providing some respite for the important car industry.
