What to make of diverging confidence and the stock market

While the post-pandemic divergence between consumers’ confidence and the health of the stock market in the US is striking, we doubt the old relationship between the two will re-establish itself in 2026 as the rally in equities resumes. But it could do so in 2027 if we’re right to forecast a retreat in the S&P 500.
