Reasons for caution on US energy equities

The energy sector has been the strongest performing sector of the S&P 500 since the conflict in the Middle East began, but our baseline assumption is that most of this outperformance will unwind over the rest of the year. Even if energy prices remain higher than we are forecasting, structural factors also point to an eventual underperformance, in our view.
