A decent Q2 for the region, Turkey & market turmoil

The preliminary Q2 GDP figures released this week showed that Russia staged a recovery, while strong domestic demand helped growth in Central Europe to hold up well. But the early evidence suggests that the region lost momentum at the start of Q3. Elsewhere, the fall in the Turkish lira this week served as a reminder that it is likely to be one of the EM currencies that gets caught in the firing line during flare ups of global risk aversion.
