Resignation of Ukrainian PM reignites concerns over IMF deal

The resignation of Ukraine’s prime minister on Sunday, coming alongside waning support for the government, will reignite concerns over the future of the country’s frozen IMF programme. While for now at least it looks like a fresh election will be avoided, there is still huge uncertainty about the political situation. And there is a growing risk of a shift towards populist policymaking which would derail the IMF programme and trigger fresh strains in Ukraine’s balance of payments.
