Rare Earth Elements (REEs) are highly sought-after chemical elements which are essential components of a wide range of products, ranging from smart phones to wind turbines and cancer-treating drugs. Data on supply, demand and even some prices are scarce, and when available they are questionable. Coupled with a shortage of exchange-traded instruments, this makes it difficult and relatively risky to invest in REEs. Nonetheless, given the lack of viable substitutes and the potential for large increases in demand, REEs are worth investigating further.
