Manufacturing Sales (Feb.)

Even after allowing for the sharp decline in the value of petroleum sales, the 3.3% m/m drop in manufacturing sales in February was twice as large as expected, with the drop in sales volumes hinting that industrial production weighed heavily on GDP growth. Because of January’s strength the incoming data still point to first-quarter GDP growth of 3.0% annualised, but the outlook for the second quarter just took a hit.
