South Africa’s fiscal squeeze continues

South Africa’s budget for the 2017/18 fiscal year, which envisages a fiscal squeeze of around 0.5% of GDP, looks a bit more plausible than previous budget projections. But it now seems that domestic politics rather than the fiscal targets will be key to whether South Africa holds onto its investment grade.
