Ramaphosa's SONA, CBN steps up FX liquidity

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa used his State of the Nation address to outline bold plans to tackle crime and improve infrastructure, but delivering on this will be challenging given the fragile public finances and upcoming elections. Elsewhere, the strength of Nigeria's external position has given the central bank more confidence that it can provide more FX liquidity. But even so, we think it's most likely that the naira will weaken against the dollar this year.
