Africa Weekly: Israel-Iran impact, US-Africa trade, DRC peace deal

The Israel-Iran conflict has caused a jump in oil prices over the past week and there’s a clear risk of further escalation that pushes prices up even higher. That would spell bad news for most African economies, but would be welcomed by the region’s major energy exporters, Nigeria and Angola. Meanwhile, the lead-up to next week’s US-Africa Business summit appears more muted compared to Chinese equivalents, hinting that many in the region feel that the latter is a more reliable partner. Finally, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo signed a provisional peace deal which, for the DRC, this could go some way to helping it exploit its deep endowment of critical minerals.
