North Africa’s new parliaments at risk of losing sight of economy

A lack of policy direction in North Africa is jeopardising the already-sluggish economic recovery. Unemployment has reached record highs in both Egypt and Tunisia, fiscal and external positions are poor, and the global environment remains weak. So far, there has been little in the way of economic strategies or real reforms from the region’s governments or parliaments. This is desperately needed or there will be dire consequences in the near term.
