A trade war against China would not be “easy to win”

The resignation of Gary Cohn, reportedly one of the strongest proponents of free-trade policies within the Trump administration, has raised fears that US trade policy may now turn sharply towards protectionism. China would want to avoid a trade war with the US. But if it were to happen, the Chinese response would go well beyond tariff increases.
