Judy Shelton’s rocky Senate nomination hearing this week means that President Donald Trump’s efforts to reshape the Fed from the outside could yet fail at the first hurdle. But the dovish Christopher Waller should secure Senate approval and, with the Fed’s internal strategy review likely to result in a more relaxed approach to inflation, that reinforces the impression that interest rates will not rise for many years to come.
