Egypt’s crisis worsening, Saudi-BRICS membership

The past week brought further evidence that strains in Egypt’s balance of payments are ratcheting up, underscoring the need to get the mooted enhanced IMF deal over the line. Elsewhere, the statement by Saudi Arabian officials that the Kingdom is yet to officially join the BRICS group may be sign that the Saudi government is concerned with how quickly it is being drawn into China’s bloc, particularly with the possibility of another Trump presidency in the US.
