China and India Gold Imports (Jun.)

The latest trade data for India and China show divergent trends in imports of gold by the two largest consumers. China’s gold imports continued to soar on the back of strong wholesale consumption, while India’s imports remained more subdued. Looking ahead, we expect a strong dollar to weigh on gold demand in both countries. This is one reason why we now forecast that gold prices will remain low.
