Steel prices unlikely to forge ahead

Absent major fiscal stimulus in China, global steel demand growth will be weak in the next few months. Accordingly, we forecast price declines in major steel markets towards year-end. Only when economic growth recovers and interest rates fall do we see prices rising in Europe and the US in 2024. By contrast, we project further price declines in China in 2024 on weak demand growth and excess capacity.
